Job Description

Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions has an opening for a Lead Researcher based in the Tomball, TX Technology Center. This role will provide advanced technical support for the Deposit Analysis Laboratory.

General Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical expert for assigned analytical areas

  • Author and review analysis reports for internal/external stakeholders

  • Identify key enhancements and replacements of existing analytical instrumentation

  • Perform trouble-shooting and problem solving for analytical testing failures and non-conformances

  • Initiate, investigate, and resolve corrective actions required

  • Provide high level technical consultation for Technology and Commercial teams as needed

  • Provide training and oversight for the operation of laboratory instrumentation

  • Author and review Standard Operating Procedures

  • Perform method development and validation

  • Perform analyses as needed per Standard Operating Procedures guidelines

  • Meet established due dates for all work assigned

  • Ensure quality of all results through adherence to the Quality Management System requirements

  • Follow all EHS policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in Chemistry or related science

  • 3 years analytical laboratory experience using state-of-art analytical instrumentation or techniques

  • 3 years of experience resolving complex problems associated with the operation of analytical instrumentation

  • Broad knowledge of laboratory testing techniques and instrumentation for characterizing solid (deposit) materials such as: infrared spectroscopy (IR), mass spectrometry (MS), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), extractions, pyrolysis, and gas chromatography (GC)

  • Proven technical writing and oral communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with cross functional teams

  • Excellent computer skills including both Google and MS Office products

  • High level of proficiency in the use of a LIMS

  • Proven ability to lead projects

  • Proven ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment

Desired Characteristics

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemistry or related science

  • 5+ years analytical laboratory experience using state-of-art analytical instrumentation or techniques

  • 5+ years of experience resolving complex problems associated with the operation of analytical instrumentation

  • Experience managing people in teams

  • Proven experience implementing methods in an ISO 9001 (or similar) certified organization

  • Experience using a LabWare LIMS

  • Prior experience performing analyses for industrial water or process systems

  • Advanced level of proficiency in infrared spectroscopy (IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and organic chemistry
