Job Description

The Loader Operator (OPF) is responsible for hands on operation and maintenance of the Organics Processing Facility (OPF) plant systems and for continued development of knowledge of how the plant systems work together.

This position operates within a COR certified plant environment (which is a requirement of our Contract) and is required to comply with all regulatory requirements and the Client's Environmental Management System. The processing equipment within the facility has the potential to operate up to 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and maintain all equipments and machines as per manufacturer standards.

  • Load and operate shredding system.

  • Coordinate waste material reception.

  • Monitor waste inventory on the TIP floor.

  • Load hauling trucks using a Front-End Loader.

  • Perform daily checks and routine maintenance on Shredding system.

  • Communicate clearly if any operational/technical issues arise and execute the instructions diligently in resolving the problem.

  • Adjustment of controls to operate equipment in the recommended or prescribed operating ranges.

  • Monitor, compile and record operations records.

  • Keep management informed by maintaining records, sending reports or as needed contact by phone of any potential issues that could affect the safety or performance of the sites and or equipment.

  • Understand and follow standard operating procedures (SOP) as assigned to assure the duties are performed in a consistent, reliable and timely manner.

  • Perform minor equipment repair and adjustments.

  • Understand and follow SOP.

  • Show diligence regarding the use of PPE and safety trainings.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned..

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Talents:

  • Minimum high school diploma required .

  • Previous experience in an industrial process plant environment is a definite asset.

  • Experience operating Front End Loader is required.

  • Experience operating Skidsteer, or man lift is a definite asset.

  • Experience working on a job site performing hands-on tasks with the ability and experience using handtools and operate heavy machinery.

  • Ability to work at heights is an asset

  • Ability to trouble-shoot mechanical equipment and systems is a definite asset.

  • Ability to learn about internal control systems.

  • Must be able to communicate in English in a clear manner.

  • Strong customer service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional customer service and quality results.

  • Attentiveness to details and ability to manage a diverse workload within a fast-paced environment with changing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.

  • Proven organizational and creative-problem solving skills.

  • Ability and willingness to work assigned shifts and pre-authorized overtime.

  • Ability to wear respirator when required to meet safety guidelines due to noxious gas & dusty environment.

  • Clean shave policy is a must, to conform with the health and safety guidelines put in place.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.

  • Ability to complete all conditions of employment including negative alcohol and drug test, current and clean Class 5 driver's license , pre-employment medical, immunizations, and background check.

Work Environment:

  • Equipment and Tools Used:

  • Regularly operates company owned, leased, managed, or rented vehicles and/or mobile equipment. Mobile equipment includes trucks, loaders, skid steers and man lifts.

  • Regularly operates Plant equipment including pumps, conveyors and hydraulic equipment.

  • Occasional use of standard office equipment.

  • Occasional use of computer.

  • Challenging conditions normally associated with job (e.g. physical hazards, shop conditions, excessive travel as an integral part of the duties performed, etc.) It is assumed that all reasonable and legal Occupational Health & Safety practices are in place and are adhered to. In addition, PPE is to be worn as per company standards and procedures. Refer to the safety section and safe work plan sections of procedures for specific information. Refer to the position's Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for the correlation or activity, risk, and controls.

  • Works directly in Plant; required to climb ladders, work at heights or in confined spaces, and be exposed to various industrial hazards such as but not limited to noise, fumes, chemicals, process gases, bloodborne and other pathogens.

  • Required to wear respirator while in the Plant.

  • Exposed to Compressed/flammable gas, mobile equipment, moving equipment, rotating equipment and electrical hazards.

  • Exposed to hot and cold working environments.

Working Hours:

Regular hours of work for the Loader Operator (OPF) is based on a 42 hour work week.

  • 5 days a week, from Tuesday to Saturday.

  • Tuesday to Friday: 10:30 am to 7:00 pm.

  • Saturday: 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.

  • 30 minute paid lunch break.

  • Two 15 minute unpaid breaks.

Hours of work reflect operational and business needs and will be provided with a notice of work times in accordance with the Alberta Employment Standards code. Incumbent is required to perform On-Call Duties as scheduled and may be required to work pre-authorized overtime.
